The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 and purify your robes, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he beheld, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
