The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn, 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he thought; 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
