The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 stay away from sins 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 May he be condemned! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
