The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 arise, and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And made things easy for them. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
