The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 and who still desires more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he thought; 21 frowned and scowled; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
