The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He planned and plotted. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
