The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 purify your garments; 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 it will be a hard day 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he looked round; 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
