The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
