The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And your clothing purify 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked round; 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
