The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 purify your garments; 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And children present [with him] 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
