The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 and defilement flee! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 May he be condemned! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
