The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 purify your garments; 4 shun uncleanness; 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons present by his side. 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 May he be condemned! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he looked, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
