The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 And your garments purify! 4 and defilement flee! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 it will be a hard day 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
