The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 Pollution shun! 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
