The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 it scorches the skin; 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
