The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 purify your garments; 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 May he be condemned! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
