The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
