The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 arise and give warning! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 Pollution shun! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 He looked (at others); 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
