The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 arise and give warning! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And your clothing purify 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then looked he, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
