The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 and defilement flee! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he looked, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
