The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 thy robes purify 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons present by his side. 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 Burning the skins! 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
