The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 arise and give warning! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 purify your garments; 4 And all abomination shun! 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
