The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
