The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Muhammad SAW) enveloped (in garments)! 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
