NAY, but consider the moon! 32 And the night when it departs, 33 and the dawn when it is white, 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 a warning to humankind, 36 a warning to everyone of you whether he would like to come forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul will be in captivity for its deeds 38 save the People of the Right Hand 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 Concerning the culprits: 41 “What drove you to Hell?” 42 They will answer: “We were not among those who observed Prayer, 43 Nor did we feed the wretched. 44 and we were wont to indulge in sinning together with all [the others] who indulged in it; 45 And we used to deny the Day of Recompense 46 Until the certainty (of death) had come upon us. 47 So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. 48 Then what is wrong with them that they turn away from admonition, 49 like startled wild donkeys 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Aye! every one of them desireth that: he should be vouchsafed scrolls expanded. 52 No, indeed they have no fear of the Everlasting Life. 53 Nay; this is an Exhortation. 54 so whoever wills shall remember it. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
