I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 And the night when on the wane, 33 And by oath of the morning, when it spreads light. 34 surely it is one of the greatest things 35 it is a warning to man, 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Every soul is mortgaged for its own deeds. 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 In Gardens they will question 40 about the sinners. 41 "what led you into hell?" 42 They shall say, 'We were not of those who prayed, and 43 And we have not been feeding the poor. 44 and we indulged in vain talk with those who indulged in vain talk, 45 And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 till the Certain came to us.' -- 47 So no intercession will avail them. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 As if they were frightened (wild) donkeys. 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Is it that everyone of them wants to receive a heavenly book addressed to him personally? 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 Nay, verily. Lo! this is an Admonishment. 54 Let him who will take heed: 55 No one will seek guidance unless God wills it. He alone is worthy of being feared and He is the Source of Forgiveness. 56
