NAY, but consider the moon! 32 And the night when it departs, 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 A warning to mankind, 36 To him among you who wishes to go forward or remain behind. 37 Every soul is pledged to what it does, 38 Save the fellows of the right. 39 [Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other 40 Of evil-doers: 41 "What was it that brought you to Hell?" 42 They will answer: “We were not among those who observed Prayer, 43 nor did we feed the destitute. 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it], 45 And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 Till death overtook us. 47 So no intercession of intercessors will be of any use to them. 48 What ails them, that they turn away from the Reminder, 49 as if they were startled asses 50 Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey. 51 Aye! every one of them desireth that: he should be vouchsafed scrolls expanded. 52 Nay! But they fear not the Hereafter (from Allah's punishment). 53 Nay! it is surely an admonition. 54 Let him then who heeds remember it. 55 And they will not mind unless Allah please. He is worthy to be feared and worthy to forgive. 56
