Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 Consider the night when it departs, 33 And the dawn when it shineth forth, 34 hell is certainly the greatest calamity. 35 a warning to humankind, 36 alike to every one of you, who want to go forward or hang back. 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 except the Companions of the Right. 39 In gardens they will ask one another 40 Of evil-doers: 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 and they shall reply, "We were not among those who prayed; 43 And we have not been feeding the poor. 44 we indulged in vain arguments along with those who indulged in them; 45 “And used to deny the Day of Justice.” 46 until the Inevitable End [death] overtook us." 47 Then there will not profit them intercesion of the interceders. 48 WHAT, THEN, is amiss with them that they turn away from all admonition 49 As they were frightened asses 50 running away from a lion? 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. 53 No indeed; surely it is a Reminder; 54 So, whoever wills, will remember it. 55 they will only take heed if God so wills: He is the Lord who is worthy to be feared: the Lord of forgiveness. 56
