By the moon, 32 By the night when it departs. 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 As a warning to humanity - 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul will be in captivity for its deeds 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 who shall be in the Gardens, and shall ask 40 concerning the sinners, 41 What has brought you into hell? 42 They shall say, 'We were not of those who prayed, and 43 And we have not been feeding the poor. 44 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; 45 "And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 until death approached us". 47 So the intercession of intercessors shall not avail them. 48 Why now turn they away from the Admonishment, 49 like frightened donkeys 50 fleeing -- before a lion? 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 This will certainly never be the case! In fact, they are not afraid of the Day of Judgment. 53 Yes indeed, this is an advice. 54 Let any who will, keep it in remembrance! 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
