▼ 74 The Hidden Secret
Al-Muddath-thir 2 of 2
I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 By the night when it withdraweth. 33 By the morning when it brighteneth. 34 surely (Hell) is one of the greatest Signs, 35 Warn the men. 36 Whoever of you desires to progress or lag behind. 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 except the Companions of the Right. 39 in Gardens they will question 40 and will ask of the criminals, 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; 44 and we were wont to indulge in sinning together with all [the others] who indulged in it; 45 And we used to deny the Day of Recompense 46 until certainty came upon us [in death]." 47 So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. 48 If such will be the Day of Judgment, what is the matter with them? Why do they run away from guidance, 49 As though they were frightened asses 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about. 52 Never! In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay, verily. Lo! this is an Admonishment. 54 Let anyone who seeks guidance do so. 55 And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness. 56
