By the moon, 32 And by the Night as it retreateth, 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions] 35 As a warning to humanity - 36 To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;- 37 Every soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 [Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other 40 About the criminals, 41 “What drove you to Hell?” 42 They will say, "We were not of those who prayed, 43 Nor did we used to feed the poor. 44 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; 45 And rejected the Day of Judgement as a lie 46 "Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." 47 So the intercession of intercessors shall not avail them. 48 Why then do they turn away from the admonition 49 As if they were frightened (wild) donkeys. 50 Fleeing from a lion! 51 In fact every one of them wants to be given open books (like the prophets). 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 No indeed; surely it is a Reminder; 54 Let him who will take heed: 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
