Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 By the night when it departs. 33 and the morning when it appears, 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 A warning to mankind,- 36 a warning to everyone of you whether he would like to come forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul is pledged to what it does, 38 save the Companions of the Right; 39 Sitting in the gardens, asking 40 About the guilty: 41 "What was it that brought you to Hell?" 42 They will reply, "We did not pray, 43 we fed not the needy, 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who entered into vain discourses. 45 "And we used to belie the Day of Recompense 46 until the Inevitable End [death] overtook us." 47 So the intercession of the intercessors will not benefit them. (The disbelievers will not have any intercessor.) 48 Why then do they turn away from the admonition 49 As if they were startled donkeys – 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Indeed, everyone of them desires to have sheets of revelations unfolded before them -- 52 Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter. 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 So whosoever willeth may heed it. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
