Nay! By the moon 32 by the retreating night, 33 And [by] the morning when it brightens, 34 Surely it (hell) is one of the gravest (misfortunes), 35 a warning to humankind, 36 a warning to everyone of you whether he would like to come forward or lag behind. 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 Except the Companions of the Right Hand. 39 In gardens, they shall ask each other 40 About the criminals, 41 [And asking them], "What put you into Saqar?" 42 They will answer: We were not of those who prayed 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 “And used to dwell on evil matters with those who think evilly.” 45 "And we used to belie the Day of Recompense 46 Until the certainty (of death) had come upon us. 47 The intercession of their intercessors shall not benefit them. 48 Why then do they turn away from the admonition 49 as if they were startled asses 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter, 53 Nay; this is an Exhortation. 54 So, whoever wills may benefit from it. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
