Nay, and by the moon, 32 by the retreating night, 33 And [by] the morning when it brightens, 34 surely (Hell) is one of the greatest Signs, 35 A warning to mankind,- 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Every soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Except those on the Right, (i.e. the pious true believers of Islamic Monotheism); 39 In Gardens they will question 40 About the guilty: 41 What led you into the Scorching Fire? 42 They said, “We never used to offer the prayer.” 43 and we did not feed the poor, 44 “And used to dwell on evil matters with those who think evilly.” 45 and the Day of Judgment we were wont to call a lie 46 Till death overtook us. 47 So no intercession will avail them. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 as if they were startled asses 50 fleeing before a lion? 51 Rather each one of them desires that he should be given open Books. 52 By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. 53 No indeed; surely it is a Reminder; 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 No one will seek guidance unless God wills it. He alone is worthy of being feared and He is the Source of Forgiveness. 56
