Nay, by the Moon 32 by the retreating night, 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 A warning for people -- 36 To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Except the companions of the right, 39 In Gardens, they seek answers, 40 About Al-Mujrimun (polytheists, criminals, disbelievers, etc.), (And they will say to them): 41 What led you into the Scorching Fire? 42 They shall say, 'We were not of those who prayed, and 43 “Nor used to feed the needy.” 44 We plunged in with the plungers 45 And we used to deny the Day of Recompense 46 Till death overtook us. 47 So the intercession of intercessors shall not avail them. 48 Why now turn they away from the Admonishment, 49 As if they were asses taking fright 50 fleeing -- before a lion? 51 Nay; every one of them desires that he may be given pages spread out; 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 Let anyone who seeks guidance do so. 55 No one will seek guidance unless God wills it. He alone is worthy of being feared and He is the Source of Forgiveness. 56
