Nay! By the moon 32 And the night when it withdraweth 33 And by oath of the morning, when it spreads light. 34 it is one of the greatest trials, 35 A warning to mankind, 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 except those of the right hand 39 Sitting in the gardens, asking 40 about the sinners. 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They will say: "We were not of those who used to offer their Salat (prayers) 43 "Nor we used to feed Al-Miskin (the poor); 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 And we used to deny the Day of Recompense 46 Till death overtook us. 47 And so, of no benefit to them could be the intercession of any that would intercede for them. 48 What is the matter with them that they turn away from this Reminder, 49 as though they were frightened wild asses, 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Aye! every one of them desireth that: he should be vouchsafed scrolls expanded. 52 Nay! But they fear not the Hereafter (from Allah's punishment). 53 Nay, verily. Lo! this is an Admonishment. 54 Let him then who heeds remember it. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
