Resurrection (Al-Qeyaamah)
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Shocker (Al-Qaare'ah) before The Backbiter (Al-Hummazah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by the Day of Resurrection 1 But nay! I call to witness the accusing voice of man's own conscience! 2 Does man think that We cannot assemble his bones? 3 Indeed yes, We are able to shape his fingerstips yet again! 4 In fact, people want to have eternal life in this world. 5 asking, 'When shall be the Day of Resurrection?' 6 When the sight is dazed, 7 And the moon becomes dark, 8 And the sun and moon are conjoined, 9 on that Day will man exclaim "Whither to flee?" 10 No, there shall be no (place of) refuge. 11 For on that Day the refuge shall be to your Lord. 12 To man will be declared on that Day that which he hath sent on and left behind. 13 Nay! Man will be a witness against himself [as his body parts (skin, hands, legs, etc.) will speak about his deeds]. 14 And even if he presents all the excuses he has, none will be listened to. 15 [Prophet], do not move your tongue too fast in your attempt to learn this revelation: 16 We shall be responsible for its collection and its recitation. 17 Wherefore when We recite it, follow thou the reciting thereof. 18 Nay more, it is for Us to explain it (and make it clear): 19 Nay! But you love the present life, 20 And neglect the hereafter. 21 [Some] faces, that Day, will be radiant, 22 Looking toward their Lord; 23 And (other) faces on that day shall be gloomy, 24 Thinking that some calamity was about to fall on them; 25 Nay; when a man's soul reaches up to the throat, 26 And it is said, "Who will cure [him]?" 27 and when he thinks it is the time of departure 28 when his legs are brought together [when affliction is combined with affliction]; 29 upon that Day the driving shall be to your Lord. 30
