The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Indeed, there came upon the human a period of time when he was an unremembered thing. 1 Lo! We create man from a drop of thickened fluid to test him; so We make him hearing, knowing. 2 Verily, We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. 3 Surely We have prepared for the unbelievers chains and shackles and a burning fire. 4 the righteous shall drink from a cup mixed with the coolness of kafur, 5 a spring from which God's servants will drink, making it gush forth in branches. 6 These will be the ones who fulfil their vows and dread the Day whose woe shall be spread far and wide; 7 And they give food out of love for Him to the poor and the orphan and the captive: 8 [Saying], "We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude. 9 "We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord." 10 So Allah will save them from the evil of that Day and has secured for them radiance and joyfulness, 11 and recompensed them for their patience with a Garden, and silk; 12 Reclining there upon couches, they shall see neither the sun nor the moon. 13 The shade thereof is close upon them and the clustered fruits thereof bow down. 14 And there shall be made to go round about them vessels of silver and goblets which are of glass, 15 crystal-like, [but] of silver - the measure whereof they alone will determine. 16 There will they drink a cup flavoured with ginger 17 A spring there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ There boys of everlasting youth shall go about attending them: when you see them, you would think that they are scattered pearls. 19 When you see them, you see bliss, and a great Kingdom. 20 They [i.e., the virtuous] shall be attired in garments of fine green silk and rich brocade and will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure wine to drink. 21 [And it will be said], "Indeed, this is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated." 22
