The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HAS THERE [not] been an endless span of time before man [appeared - a time] when he was not yet a thing to be thought of? 1 Indeed We have created man from mixed semen; in order to test him – We therefore made him hearing, knowing. 2 Verily, We have shown him the way: [and it rests with him to prove himself] either grateful or ungrateful. 3 For the Rejecters we have prepared chains, yokes, and a blazing Fire. 4 Indeed the virtuous will drink from a cup, containing a mixture of Kafoor. 5 The Kafoor is a spring, from which the chosen bondmen of Allah will drink, causing it to flow wherever they wish inside their palaces. 6 They [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread. 7 And they feed with food, for love of Him, the needy, and the orphan and the captive. 8 (saying): 'We feed you only desirous of the Face of Allah; we seek of you neither recompense nor thanks, 9 Verily we dread from our Lord a Day grim and distressful. 10 Wherefore Allah shall preserve them from the evil of that Day, and shall cause them to meet brightness and joy. 11 And gave them Paradise and silk clothes, as a reward for their patience. 12 In that [garden] they will on couches recline, and will know therein neither [burning] sun nor cold severe, 13 The shade thereof is close upon them and the clustered fruits thereof bow down. 14 And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and goblets of crystal,- 15 Crystal-clear, made of silver: they will determine the measure thereof (according to their wishes). 16 And therein they shall be given to drink of a cup whereof the admixture will be ginger. 17 From a fountain therein, named Salsabil. 18 ۞ And round about them will (serve) boys of everlasting youth. If you see them, you would think them scattered pearls. 19 wherever you look, you will see bliss and a great kingdom: 20 Upon them will be green Garments of fine silk and heavy brocade, and they will be adorned with Bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give to them to drink of a Wine Pure and Holy. 21 (And it will be said unto them): Lo! this is a reward for you. Your endeavour (upon earth) hath found acceptance. 22
