The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Surely there hath come upon man a space of time when he was not a thing worth mentioning. 1 Verily We created man from a sperm yoked (to the ovum) to bring out his real substance, then gave him hearing and sight. 2 Surely We have shown him the way: he may be thankful or unthankful. 3 Verily, We have prepared for the disbelievers iron chains, iron collars, and a blazing Fire. 4 Surely the pious shall drink of a cup whose mixture is camphor, 5 A Fountain where the Devotees of Allah do drink, making it flow in unstinted abundance. 6 [The truly virtuous are] they [who] fulfil their vows, and stand in awe of a Day the woe of which is bound to spread far and wide, 7 they give food, for the love of Him, to the needy, the orphan, the captive: 8 (Saying): We feed you, for the sake of Allah only. We wish for no reward nor thanks from you; 9 Indeed, We fear from our Lord a Day austere and distressful." 10 So God has guarded them from the evil of that day, and has procured them radiancy and gladness, 11 And reward them for their perseverence Paradise and silken robes, 12 therein they shall recline upon couches, therein they shall see neither sun nor bitter cold; 13 And the shade thereof is close upon them, and the bunches of fruit thereof will hang low within their reach. 14 and passed around them shall be silver vessels, and crystal goblets, 15 Godblets of silver, they shall have filled them to exact measure. 16 and they will be given a cup to drink flavoured with ginger, 17 From a fountain therein, named Salsabil. 18 ۞ And there shall go round unto them youths ever-young. When thou seest them thou wouldst deem them pearls unstrung. 19 When thou seest, thou wilt see there bliss and high estate. 20 Upon the inhabitants will be green garments of fine silk and brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink. 21 This will be their reward and their efforts will be appreciated. 22
