The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Was there a period of time when man was not even worthy of a mention? 1 Verily We created Man from a drop of mingled sperm, in order to try him: So We gave him (the gifts), of Hearing and Sight. 2 We showed him the right path whether he would be grateful or ungrateful. 3 Indeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers chains and shackles and a blaze. 4 Surely the pious shall drink of a cup whose mixture is camphor, 5 a spring from which God's servants will drink, making it gush forth in branches. 6 They perform (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil flies far and wide. 7 And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 (saying): “We feed you only for Allah's sake; we do not seek of you any recompense or thanks, 9 Lo! we fear from our Lord a day of frowning and of fate. 10 And so, God will preserve them from the woes of that Day, and will bestow on them brightness and joy, 11 And shall recompense them for that which they patiently bare with a Garden and silken garment. 12 They will recline therein on couches and they will find neither excessive heat nor cold. 13 Near them shall be its shades with its clusters hung gently down, 14 Rounds of silver cups and silver beakers, looking like glass, will be presented upon them. 15 and gleaming silver goblets which have been filled to the exact measure, 16 And they shall be made to drink therein a cup the admixture of which shall be ginger, 17 A fountain there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And round about them shall go youths never altering in age; when you see them you will think them to be scattered pearls. 19 And when you look there [in Paradise], you will see pleasure and great dominion. 20 Their garments will be of fine green silk, and gold embroidery. They will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a pure drink. 21 Surely this is a reward for you, and your striving shall be recompensed. 22
