The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Surely there hath come upon man a space of time when he was not a thing worth mentioning. 1 We have created the human from a (sperm) drop, a mixture, testing him; We made him to hear and see. 2 Indeed, We guided him to the way, be he grateful or be he ungrateful. 3 We have prepared chains, shackles, and flaming fire (for the disbelievers). 4 Surely the devotees will drink cups flavoured with palm blossoms 5 a fountain whereat drink the servants of God, making it to gush forth plenteously. 6 They perform (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil flies far and wide. 7 And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 They say to them, “We give you food, only for the sake of Allah – we do not seek any reward or thanks from you.” 9 Verily we dread from our Lord a Day grim and distressful. 10 So Allah will protect them from the evil of that Day and give them radiance and happiness 11 For their patience, He will reward them with Paradise and silk. 12 They will recline therein on couches and they will find neither excessive heat nor cold. 13 And close upon them will be the shades thereof, and low will hang the clusters thereof greatly. 14 And brought round amongst them will be vessels of silver and also goblets of glass. 15 Glass made from silver, which the servers have filled up to the measure. 16 Therein they shall be served a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 A fountain there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ There wait on them immortal youths, whom, when thou seest, thou wouldst take for scattered pearls. 19 When you see them, you see bliss, and a great Kingdom. 20 Upon them shall be green garments of silk and brocade; they are adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord shall give them to drink a pure draught. 21 This will be their reward and their efforts will be appreciated. 22
