The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
WAS THERE NOT a time in the life of man when he was not even a mentionable thing? 1 We created man from a drop of mingled fluid so that We might try him; We gave him hearing and sight; 2 We surely showed him the way that he may either be grateful or deny. 3 Verily, We have prepared for the disbelievers iron chains, iron collars, and a blazing Fire. 4 The virtuous ones will drink from a cup containing camphor 5 a spring from which God's servants will drink, making it gush forth in branches. 6 They fulfil their pledges, and fear a day the evil of which is widespread. 7 who give food, for the love of Him to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 They say to them, “We give you food, only for the sake of Allah – we do not seek any reward or thanks from you.” 9 Lo! we fear from our Lord a day of frowning and of fate. 10 So Allah shall guard them against the woe of that Day, and will procure them freshness and joy, 11 and recompensed them for their patience with a Garden, and silk; 12 There they will recline on elevated couches and will be subjected neither to the burning heat of the sun nor to bitter cold. 13 The shades of the garden will be closely spread over them and it will be easy for them to reach the fruits. 14 and passed around them shall be silver vessels, and crystal goblets, 15 crystal of silver that they have measured -- very exactly. 16 And they will be given to drink there a cup (of wine) mixed with Zanjabil (ginger, etc.), 17 from a fountain called Salsabila. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall go about them; when thou seest them, thou supposest them scattered pearls, 19 when thou seest them then thou seest bliss and a great kingdom. 20 They [i.e., the virtuous] shall be attired in garments of fine green silk and rich brocade and will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure wine to drink. 21 "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." 22
