The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there not been over man a period of time, when he was nothing to be mentioned? 1 Surely We have created man from a small life-germ uniting (itself): We mean to try him, so We have made him hearing, seeing. 2 We have indeed shown him the way – whether he is grateful or ingrate. 3 For the Rejecters we have prepared chains, yokes, and a blazing Fire. 4 [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: 5 a source [of bliss] whereof God's servants shall drink, seeing it flow in a flow abundant. 6 [The truly virtuous are] they [who] fulfil their vows, and stand in awe of a Day the woe of which is bound to spread far and wide, 7 who give food, for the love of Him to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 (saying): “We feed you only for Allah's sake; we do not seek of you any recompense or thanks, 9 "We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord." 10 Therefore, God will ward off from them the woes of that Day, and make them find brightness and joy, 11 And will reward them for what they patiently endured [with] a garden [in Paradise] and silk [garments]. 12 therein they shall recline upon couches, therein they shall see neither sun nor bitter cold; 13 And near above them are its shades, and its [fruit] to be picked will be lowered in compliance. 14 They will be served with silver dishes and crystal clear goblets. 15 Clear glasses [made] from silver of which they have determined the measure. 16 And they will be given to drink a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of ginger 17 drawn from a spring (in Paradise) called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And round about them shall go youths never altering in age; when you see them you will think them to be scattered pearls. 19 wherever you look, you will see bliss and a great kingdom: 20 In it they adorn clothes of fine green silk and gold embroidery; and they are given silver bracelets to wear; and their Lord gave them pure wine to drink. 21 Behold, this is your recompense and your endeavour has been appreciated. 22
