The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Has there not been over man a period of time, when he was nothing to be mentioned? 1 We created the human being from the union of sperm and egg to test him. We gave him hearing and vision. 2 Indeed, We have guided him to the path, he is either grateful or ungrateful. 3 Verily, We have prepared for the disbelievers iron chains, iron collars, and a blazing Fire. 4 [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah drink, making it gush forth abundantly, 6 they who keep their vows and fear a Day whose evil is spread; 7 and who give food - however great be their own want of it - unto the needy, and the orphan, and the captive, 8 They say to them, “We give you food, only for the sake of Allah – we do not seek any reward or thanks from you.” 9 Truly, we fear from our Lord a woefully grim Day." 10 So Allah saved them from the evil of that Day, and gave them Nadratan (a light of beauty) and joy. 11 and will reward them for their steadfastness with Paradise and robes of silk. 12 Reclining in it, upon thrones; they will not see the hot sunshine in it, nor the bitter cold. 13 And the shades of the (Garden) will come low over them, and the bunches (of fruit), there, will hang low in humility. 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver and goblets of crystal, 15 Clear glasses [made] from silver of which they have determined the measure. 16 And in that [paradise] they will be given to drink of a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 from a flowing spring called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness): If thou seest them, thou wouldst think them scattered Pearls. 19 When you look around, you will see delights and great dominion. 20 Upon them there will be garments of green silk, rich brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure beverage to drink. 21 Verily this is for you by way of recompense, and your endeavour hath been accepted. 22
