The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? 1 Verily We created man out of a drop of intermingled sperm so that We might try him, and We therefore endowed him with hearing and sight. 2 Surely We guided him upon the way whether he be thankful or unthankful. 3 Surely We have prepared for the unbelievers chains and shackles and a burning fire. 4 Surely the devotees will drink cups flavoured with palm blossoms 5 a fountain whereat drink the servants of God, making it to gush forth plenteously. 6 They perform (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil flies far and wide. 7 And out of His love, they give food to the needy, the orphan and the prisoner. 8 (Saying),"We feed you for the sake of Allah alone: no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks. 9 "We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord." 10 So Allah saved them from the evil of that day, and gave them freshness and joy. 11 And will reward them for what they patiently endured [with] a garden [in Paradise] and silk [garments]. 12 Where they will recline on couches feeling neither heat of the sun nor intense cold. 13 The shades of Paradise will bend over them, and its fruits will be brought within their easy reach; 14 Rounds of silver cups and silver beakers, looking like glass, will be presented upon them. 15 goblets bright as crystal but made of silver, filled to exact measure. 16 And therein they shall be given to drink a cup whose mixture is ginger, 17 From a spring by the name of Ever-flowing-Salsabil. 18 ۞ And there shall go round unto them youths ever-young. When thou seest them thou wouldst deem them pearls unstrung. 19 Whitherto you look around, you will see an abundance of bliss and the glories of a great kingdom. 20 In it they adorn clothes of fine green silk and gold embroidery; and they are given silver bracelets to wear; and their Lord gave them pure wine to drink. 21 "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." 22
