The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has there [not] come upon man a period of time when he was not a thing [even] mentioned? 1 We created the human being from the union of sperm and egg to test him. We gave him hearing and vision. 2 We showed him the right path whether he would be grateful or ungrateful. 3 Indeed, for the unbelievers We have prepared chains, fetters and a Blazing (Fire). 4 The virtuous shall drink from a cup tempered with camphor water. 5 From a spring of which the votaries of God will drink and make it flow in abundance. 6 The servants of God fulfill their vows and are afraid of the day in which there will be widespread terror. 7 And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 [saying, in their hearts,] "We feed you for the sake of God alone: we desire no recompense from you, nor thanks: 9 We fear the dismal day calamitous from our Lord." 10 So Allah shall guard them against the woe of that Day, and will procure them freshness and joy, 11 And gave them Paradise and silk clothes, as a reward for their patience. 12 Reclining upon couches, they will find therein neither the heat of the sun nor bitter, biting cold, 13 The shade thereof is close upon them and the clustered fruits thereof bow down. 14 Goblets of silver are brought round for them, and beakers (as) of glass 15 and gleaming silver goblets which have been filled to the exact measure, 16 There are they watered with a cup whereof the mixture is of Zanjabil, 17 therein a fountain whose name is called Salsabil. 18 ۞ There will circulate among them young boys made eternal. When you see them, you would think them [as beautiful as] scattered pearls. 19 If you were to see it, you would find it to be a great kingdom with great bounty. 20 They [i.e., the virtuous] shall be attired in garments of fine green silk and rich brocade and will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure wine to drink. 21 (And it will be said unto them): Lo! this is a reward for you. Your endeavour (upon earth) hath found acceptance. 22
