The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what ask they? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 They called Our revelations false with strong denial. 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
