The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what ask they? 1 About the great event, 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Surely, they will soon find out the truth! 5 Did We not make the earth a bed? 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Surely, the Day of Judgement has an appointed time. 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 Recompense fitted! 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
