The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the great event, 2 About which they differ? 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Did We not make the earth a bed? 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 made the night as a covering, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 Living therein for ages. 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
